KaleidoDrums

Which file should you download?

KaleidoDrums is a small drum pattern application. Rays of light bouncing inside a reflective polygon, such as a kaleidoscope, drive the selection of the drums. Simple controls produce an endless number of different and interesting drum patterns.

Inspired by a late renaissance paper on using reflections inside a crystal to generate melodies and harmonies (Collection of Historical Music Instruments in Vienna's Museum of Fine Arts).

If you own Max4/MSP2, please feel free to download the folder containing the patch and sound samples. The patch will not work with Max 3.6.2 as it uses Max 4 objects. If you like poking at code you might enjoy examining the algorithms that reflect the light rays, the "almost guaranteed no-clicks" sample player, and perhaps the coarse/fine dial algorithm.

If you do not own Max4/MSP2, fell free to download and use the compiled application. This requires a Macintosh PPC to run. Tested to work on a Mac G4. Please read the terms of use in the included README file. Use at your own risk.

For Max4/MSP2 users - download KaleidoPatch.sit (230k)

For other users - download KaleidoApp.sit (800k)
